Celebrating Global Cultures

Connection, Curiosity and Community 

At RPPS, our annual International Culture Day is a celebration of the diversity that enriches our school community and the wider world. This year’s event brought together pupils from Reception to Year 6 for a day filled with energy, colour and discovery. 

The day began with a series of hands-on workshops, where children explored different cultural traditions through dance, craft, language, film and games. Our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum took centre stage, with a particular focus on French Polynesia and Peru. These regions were brought to life through traditional dances, themed artwork, and carefully chosen films – Moana and Pachamama – which proved popular with staff and pupils alike. 

Children moved between activities with curiosity and enthusiasm, deepening their understanding of how culture shapes daily life across the globe. These shared experiences supported their learning in French and Spanish and reminded us all of the importance of language in building bridges between people and places. 

An Afternoon of Sharing: Our International Community Fair 

The celebrations continued into the afternoon with our International Community Fair, a now regular feature of the school calendar. Families representing over a dozen countries came together to share food, stories, artefacts and traditional dress from their heritage. 

The school hall was transformed into a vibrant international market, alive with the sounds, smells and colours of the world. Pupils sampled dishes, asked questions and listened to the stories behind the stalls. It was a pleasure to see our children so eager to learn from the parents, carers and grandparents who gave their time so generously. 

From Azerbaijan to Mauritius, Colombia to South Korea, each table offered a new perspective and a chance to connect. These moments of exchange not only celebrated cultural identity but also nurtured empathy, understanding and respect.

A huge thank you to Mrs Leon for her vision, energy and thoughtful planning, and to all the parents and carers who made the day so memorable. The enthusiasm of our pupils and the commitment of our wider community were at the heart of this celebration. 

At RPPS, we believe that learning about the world, and from one another, is vital in helping our children grow into kind, open-minded and globally aware individuals. International Culture Day is a vibrant expression of that belief, and we are already looking forward to next year’s event.
